FRANCE

In order to work in their profession, all pharmacists must be registered on the register of the Chamber of Pharmacists.

When this takes place the Chamber ensures that the applicant pharmacist fulfils all the conditions laid down by law: qualification, competence, and ethical standards, independence, and, as appropriate, the holding of a dispensary operating license, or attestation of special experience required for certain activities. Rules vary for EEA and non EEA (overseas) pharmacists.

In France, a six-year course of PharmD (called “Doctorat d’Etat en Pharmacie”) must be completed. Sometimes, young pharmacists can opt a four-year post-graduate specialty like Physician, a pharmaceutical residency called “Internat en Pharmacie”. Pharmacists can also specialize in Laboratory Medicine called “Biologie médicale” or in Hospital Pharmacy.
