NEW ZEALAND

In New Zealand, as with other western nations, a four year B.Pharm must be completed, followed by an internship at a pharmacy. Pharmacists are registered at the Pharmaceutical Society Of New Zealand. The degree can be taken at University Of Otago in Dunedin and University Of Auckland in Auckland. The pharmacists who are registered with Pharmacy Regulation Authority of Australia do not need to sit in any exam to get registered in New Zealand Pharmacy Council.

Non REQR (Recognised Equivalent Qualifications Route) Applications

This application route is for pharmacists applying for registration in New Zealand who qualified in countries other than Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Answer these questions to see if you meet the requirements for initial consideration by the Pharmacy Council.

  1. Are you a registered pharmacist?

  2. Do you have a university degree in pharmacy (e.g. BPharm, MPharm)? Applicants who graduated after 1 January 2006 must have completed at least a 4 year degree?

  3. Have you worked as a registered pharmacist in a clinical setting within a community or hospital pharmacy for at least 12 months within the last 5 years?

If you have answered YES to each of these questions you may be eligible for registration in New Zealand.  Further information about the steps and process for registration, can be found in the Non-REQR booklet (download).

If you have answered NO to any of these questions, you currently do not meet the eligibility requirements for registration in New Zealand.

The occupations of Hospital, Industrial and Retail (Community) Pharmacists are not on the NZ Immigration Long Term Skill Shortage List, as there is no shortage of pharmacists in New Zealand.  Please visit the NZ Immigration website for further information on long term skills shortage and immigration requirements.
