In Spain, the Degree in Pharmacy (called licenciatura en farmacia) is consisting of 5 years. Last one is divided into two semesters, first one is similar as previous years (theory and laboratory practice) but second one is a full-time in-service training in a community pharmacy or at the pharmaceutical department of a hospital.

After obtaining degree certificate, there is the chance of opening a pharmacy by sitting in an examination to achieve a license. There is also the chance of postgraduate programs as Masters and Doctorates and of carrying hospital/industry specialty programs out (FIR or farmacéutico interno-residente, pharmacist intern-resident) by means of examinations. These specialties are: “Hospital pharmacist”, “Clinical microbiology and parasitology”, “Clinical biochemistry”, “Clinical immunology”, “Clinical analysis”, “Radio pharmacy”, “Galenical and industrial pharmacy” and “Drug and medicines’ control and analysis”.

Recognition of qualifications obtained outside the European economic area/European Union and third countries:

​

Regulatory: Royal Decree 967/2014, of 21 November, establishes the requirements and procedures for approval and Declaration of equivalent qualification and official University academic level and for the validation of foreign studies of higher education, and the procedure to determine the correspondence to the levels of the Spanish qualifications framework for higher education. The recognition of qualifications is the official recognition of the training exceeded to obtain a title foreign, comparable to that required for a Spanish degree that enables the exercise of a regulated profession.

The approval gives foreign title, since the date is granted and is issued for the credential, the same effects of the Spanish title that is certified in all the national territory.

​

Applications for type-approval correspond to deal with them and resolve them to the Ministry of education, culture and sport. It has academic and professional effects.

​

Admitted to the bar:

​

Once obtained, as appropriate, the recognition or approval of the qualification to practice the pharmaceutical profession is required be registered in an official Pharmacy Chamber (article 3 of the law 2/1974, February 13, chamber professionals).

​

The pharmaceutical profession is organized by provincial chambers, so that, in accordance with the referred Article 3 of the law of professional associations cited "simply adding to one of them, which will be the sole or main, professional address to exercise throughout the Spanish territory".

​

For admission to the corresponding official Pharmacy Chamber, it must be provided, as appropriate the title, recognition or approval. In addition, they must also meet the statutory conditions laid down in the statutes of each official Pharmacy Chamber.
